Ontario Power Authority – Climate Change Risk Assessment

This assessment, overseen by the Power System Planning staff of the Ontario Power Authority (since amalgamated with Ontario’s Independent Electricity Systems Operator), made significant contributions to understanding how climate change may affect the electrical transmission system in Ontario.

The assessment focused on a major electrical transmission station in southern Ontario, including high voltage electrical transmission elements within the station and all major high voltage circuits in to and out of the station. In addition to providing screening level results, the study also provided a first order evaluation of measures which could be used to help manage severe weather, and climate change-related risks across a broader set of transmission system segments. Conducted over the 2013-2015 time period, the study was a collaboration with The Ontario Climate Consortium, via the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), and Nodelcorp Consulting.
